Wedding Venue – Pulgas Water Temple

As a wedding photographer in the San Francisco / Bay Area, I’ve photograph a wedding at the Pulgas Water Temple last year. The place is beautiful and private place to have an event. However, during the hot summer days, it gets very hot. So plan your wedding early or very late so that it is not too hot. Imagine yourself in a gown or tux under the summer sun. After 20 minutes of standing in front of the priest, you’ll be sweating pretty bad.

I attended a presidential fundraising event for the Noynoy-Mar presidential election. It was located in San Francisco where there area many Filipino in the community. I do’t know much about the political event in the Philippines but I do know one thing, that is photography. I’m just some wedding and portrait photographer guy. For most of us, it’s not the easiest thing to relax and look natural and gorgeous when you know there’s a camera recording your every move. On your wedding day,

you can be sure cameras will be clicking at you constantly. Those are the pictures you especially want to be fabulous, right?

***

Well here are ten easy tips on how to pose for your wedding photos:

***

1: Tilt your chin down a bit. For some reason, whenever people know their photo is being taken, they tend to lift their chin. This is rarely a flattering angle

on anyone! You want to be sure to correct your instinctive tendency by just lowering your chin slightly; down to the angle you normally hold your head.

***

2: Straighten up! Although you don’t want to look stiff, you do want to have good posture. The first step, even for photos where you’re sitting, is to put your

shoulders back a bit. For pictures where you’ll be standing, straighten those shoulders and tip your hips forward just a little.

***

3: Angles are your friend. You know all those red-carpet photos of the stars? They’re almost never facing the camera straight on. That’s because it’s a much

more flattering posture to stand at about a quarter turn from the camera. Put one foot forward, straight ahead of you. The other foot should be turned to the

side, in line with that shoulder you’ve already straightened! Although your body will be at an angle, your face can still be looking directly at the

photographer.

4: It’s a good idea to do a little practice first. Go online or look at some magazines with red-carpet shots or fashion shoots. If you’re reading wedding

magazines, the photos in those are also a great reference. Find the poses that you like and try them out in front of the mirror.

5: If you’re one of those people who are always blinking in pictures, there’s a neat little trick to avoid the closed-eye look: Ask the photographer to count

and take your photo on ‘three’. When you hear ‘three’, take a breath in. It sounds crazy, but it works. Odd but true, most people don’t blink when they start to

breathe in.

***

6: Assuming you’ve hired a professional photographer, be sure to arrange some ‘alone time’ with just you, your new spouse and your photographer. The portrait

shots of you newlyweds can be really lovely and natural looking, but that doesn’t tend to happen if you’re trying to pose romantically while your wedding party

and guests are looking on.

7: Don’t hesitate to speak up. If the light is bothering your eyes, if there’s a breeze making you chilly, if you’re uncomfortable at all, say something! These

pictures are of and for you. Remember, the person/people taking your photos really will want you to look and feel happy.

8: Interact with people. On your wedding day, you’re surrounded by loved ones. When you’re posing for photos with them, let that affection show. Whether it’s a

big, exuberant hug, a simple kiss on the cheek or a hand on someone’s shoulder, an affectionate gesture can transform a photograph from ordinary to

extraordinary.

9: Find something to do with your hands. This is especially true for anyone in a suit or not holding a bouquet. For those in suits, a nice, comfortable pose is

simply to put one hand in a pocket and let the other hand hang by your side. Another is to put one hand on your lapel, holding it just below your collar bone,

again with the other hand at your side.

10: Only smile if you feel like it! Even if you’re gloriously happy, sometimes you don’t have a big grin on your face. Don’t worry about forcing a smile for

pictures if you weren’t smiling already. The look on your face, your true feelings on your wedding day will be so much more beautiful than a fake smile. Relax

and just know that no matter what you do in your pictures, your happiness is going to shine through.

Wedding Photography – What to Plan For and What to Expect on Your Wedding Day

haven’t gotten the full run-down, here are some tips about what you can expect regarding your wedding photography on the actual day.

- While you’re making arrangements for the time your photographer arrives and departs, remember that they will need at least a half hour prior to your ceremony

to check the location, take detail photos and to discuss any last minute requests. Also be sure to clarify exactly when they can expect to leave at the end of

your day. (Immediately after the cake-cutting, after the ceremony, after the first dances, at the end of the reception, etc.)

- Make sure your photographer knows the cue that your ceremony is starting. The simplest way to do this, is to specify which song will be playing when the

wedding party begins walking down the aisle.

- Be sure to bring makeup and hair styling products with you to your wedding. You’ll want to do some touch-ups before the posed photos, especially if these are

taken after the ceremony. Face powder, lip color, etc. tend to get a bit smushed during the kissing part of your vows… If you suspect there’s going to be some

crying happening (and there often is!) during the ceremony, you may also want to bring some eye-drops with you to reduce any eye redness.

- It’s usually best to do your formal photos immediately after your ceremony. You’ll be more relaxed, you won’t feel pressed for time and your wedding party

members and guests will be more relaxed as well.

- When planning the amount of time allotted for your posed photos, it’s a good rule of thumb to expect 20 to 30 minutes for each separate group of people

(bridal party, family, friends) and 30 to 45 minutes for the photos of the married couple alone together. Bear in mind that it takes a while to gather everyone

together and it also takes a bit of time to get everyone posed properly. In total, it’s usually best to plan for 60 to 90 minutes for the formal photography. If

you’ve got a very small number of people to factor in (less than 6 in total), plan for about 45 to 60 minutes.

- Make arrangements with your wedding planner or someone in your wedding party, for them to be the ‘photo wrangler’ for the posed shots. Their job is to find

everyone needed for the photos and to bring them to the spot where you’re having the pictures taken. This saves the bridal couple from having to be the ones who

round up their family members and bridal party. The less stressed out the married couple is, the better the photos will be!

- If your formal photos are going to be taking place somewhere other than the setting of your wedding, remember to factor in an additional amount of time for

traveling to and from your other photo location.

- During the posed bridal couple shots, it’s essential to take some alone time with your photographer. The really lovely, affectionate photos only tend to

happen when you don’t have a large group of people looking on.

- Before beginning your posed photos, explain to your friends, guests and family that you’ll be allowing some time for everyone to take pictures for the first

10 minutes only. This will ensure that everyone gets the photographs they’d like and it nicely allows for the rest of the formal shots to be taken without an

audience.

- If you have a printed wedding program, mention the planned times for your formal photography and mention as well, that all guests are welcome (if that’s what

you’d like) to take photos for the first 10 minutes.

- During your formal photos, don’t worry about your guests waiting for you. Most – and probably all – of them have been to at least one other wedding and

they’ll know to expect that you’ll be busy with your photos for a while before joining them. As long as they have appetizers and beverages, they’ll be perfectly

fine!

- If you’ve booked your photographer for the entire event, including the reception, you will be expected to provide them with dinner. In almost all cases, the

photographer is seated with and eats with your wedding guests. The same is also true for your videographer. It’s a good idea to seat the two together, as

they’ve already got something in common.

- Finally, be sure to have your payment for the photographer ready for when they leave. If paying by cheque, it’s usually best to leave the amount blank until

right before you hand it to them. This is in case they’ve had to stay for more (or occasionally less) time than was originally scheduled. It’s also a nice

gesture to give wedding favors to your photographer, your marriage officiant and your videographer.

The Five Things You Need to Do For Your Wedding Photography Consultation

When it comes time to book consultations with wedding photographers, it can be a bit daunting if you’re not certain what to expect or what to do. But the

process is actually quite simple if you follow these five basic steps…

1: Schedule your consultations wisely.

Assuming that you’re arranging consultations with more than one photographer, it’s best to schedule all of your photographer meetings within the same day or

two. Wedding photographers will offer you the courtesy of holding your date while you make your decision, but they can only hold that date for you for a few

days or a week at most.

By booking your consultations within the same day or two, you guarantee that your wedding date is held by all of your potential photographers for a similar

amount of time.

2: Prepare for your meeting.

*During your consultation, a lot of information gets covered in a short amount of time. You want to be sure to ask all of the questions that are really important

to you, so it’s a good idea to write a list out beforehand and bring it with you.

3: Know your budget.

It wastes your time and the photographer’s time if you meet with them and you’re not sure about exactly how much you’re prepared to spend on your wedding

photography. Before scheduling a wedding photography consultation, decide on a budget and be certain that you and your fiance are both in agreement about the

amount.

4: Know your wedding schedule.

Before you even start contacting photographers, make a list of the wedding photographs that are important to you and your fiancee. Do you want pre-ceremony

photos? Ceremony only? Do you want posed shots with your wedding party, friends and family? Photos at the reception? A comprehensive list of the photos you

want, will help you figure out how long to book your photographer.

When you meet with wedding photographers, they’ll need to know how much time you’ll want to book them for on your wedding day. Try to be sure about this before

you meet with them. If you’re not sure, bring the list of your ‘must have’ photos to your consultation.

5: Trust your instincts, not your wallet.

If you’ve done your research, you’ll have only booked meetings with photographers who have good portfolios, who offer services, rates and photography styles

that suit your needs. So the deciding factor will come down to who you’d most like to have as an integral part of your wedding day.

Sometimes you’ll know right away. But if you’re uncertain, ask yourself which photographer had a personality that seems well-suited to you and your fiance?

Which photographer seemed the most competent, knowledgeable and trustworthy? Who seemed to be the most kind, considerate, polite and friendly?

Don’t make the mistake of simply choosing the person with the lowest rates. Choose the photographer who you feel will be the best fit for you, your fiance and

for your wedding in general.
