Picking a reliable photographer is definitely an intensely personal choice which will be dependent on your own requirements and desires. Determining what type of photographer you will need will be, certainly, your 1st step. Finding a photographer that has competence in the area you need is crucial.

If it’s wedding party portraits you will need, a wedding photographer should know which photos will probably be most critical. If you’re searching for a family photographer, they will have extra know-how getting the very best pictures with a large group as well as keeping the little ones content. Using the services of a photographer that has know-how in taking the most incredible nature scenes just isn’t gonna be advantageous if you get your wedding images back and you’ve got beautiful portraits of the centerpieces but you’re missing the first dance.

Initiate your quest by accumulating a listing of the potential photographers. The best advertising campaign remains to be word of mouth. Ask your family and acquaintances if they are aware of somebody, if they’ve used a particular person, or know someone who has. Sometimes a friend might recall a coworker’s lovely framed picture and can now ask who the photographer was.

Many professional photographers have web pages displaying their portfolio. At times a poorly designed site can make an otherwise gifted photography look bad. Do your best to focus on the pictures themselves. If you see the portfolio and it evokes “that” reaction, you will know you have found a photographer worthy of making your short list.

When you’ve cut down your list somewhat, you can begin getting in touch with each photographer. If it is easy to set up a personal meeting, do so. This offers you the chance to view more of their portfolio and also receive feel for their personality. Working with a photographer which will make you feel at ease is vital if you want to capture beautiful shots. If that’s inopportune, you could do a telephone interview also. Ask the photographer if you are able to view their contract, knowing the details of how they work can make your evaluation simpler.

Know what you are receiving, what it’s going to cost, etc. Just how much experience does the photographer have? Anticipating things before they occur, so that they might be captured on film can be one of the most prized qualities of a good photographer. Know how you’d like to get your pictures for selection – contact sheets? Electronic? Many photographers provide you a disc or a web preview which includes your photographs on it and you then decide on the photography images you desire and have them developed. Understanding exactly what to expect before you make a financial commitment should remove most any possible problems that may crop up. Usually troubles between a photographer and customer are for the reason that there was a misinterpretation of expectations concerning the photography. Know what you’re getting, and ensure your photographer understands what you are expecting. As long as you wholly comprehend one another, you can expect smooth sailing.

Taking the time to plan for your baby’s photo session will make all the difference in the final images. A little preparation will make for a happier baby (and mom) during the photo shoot and you will increase the chances of getting the photographs you are envisioning. Once you’ve done the research and found a photographer who fits your budget and style, there are several things you can do to get ready for the photo session.

Scheduling is Important- The best time to photograph a baby is when he or she is neither tired nor hungry. Try to schedule your session right after a feeding. Most photographers understand that it is difficult, if not impossible, to predict a baby’s schedule and are, therefore, usually more than happy to wait while you turn your baby back into the sweet angel you want documented for posterity.

Bring Refreshments (for you and baby!)- If you are nursing, find out if there is a place for you to easily feed your baby. If there will not be an adequate place for you to comfortably nurse, consider pumping before hand and bringing a bottle. For slightly older babies, bring along something to drink and a light snack. Frankly, you may both get thirsty and hungry during the session. It’s actually quite a lot of work for everyone involved. Which leads me to the next tip.

Plan on a Little Hard Work- It’s not easy to keep your baby cooing gleefully for an entire photo shoot. Be ready to make those ridiculous faces and do those embarrassing dances that you swore you would never do outside the privacy of your own home. You will likely be up and down, singing silly songs, playing peek-a-boo, and pretend sneezing for most of the session, so check your dignity at the door. Remember, the baby will likely look at you, so put on your show wherever you want the baby to look. (The photographer will most likely guide you through this process, letting you know when she/he needs assistance and directing you to stand in a certain place.)

Clothes (Or No Clothes) Do Matter- Bathe your baby about two hours before the shoot if possible, and dress him or her in something that you can remove without disturbing your angel. If you want those adorably innocent naked baby pictures, keep diaper and clothing loose to avoid making unsightly red marks. A neutral colored onesy makes for a very simple and clean photo, but splashes of color and bright patterns or hats are also great. If you (or your spouse and/or siblings) plan to be in the photos, try to dress in neutral colors, so your clothes will not become the focal point of the image.

Gather Wardrobe and Props Ahead of Time- “Packing” ahead of time will ensure that you don’t leave something behind. Wash and pack clothes, blankets, pillows, accessories, toys, and any other special items for your session as soon as you can get by without them. Don’t feel awkward if you show up with a full suitcase. Many people do.

Be on time. – You are likely allotted a certain amount of time for your shoot. Avoid having to rush by being prepared and on time.

Maternity Photographer – San Jose Photographer

Pregnancy photography is a fast emerging trend that has taken root over the last few years, used by women to document as well as celebrate this most wonderful period of their lives. As more and more women become comfortable with their bodies, one can expect this trend to only increase in popularity.

-

Inherent to the idea of pregnancy photography is a celebration of life, the human body, and the woman as the source and abode of a new life. Further, a woman’s body goes through remarkable changes during the 9-month pregnancy period, and pregnancy photography helps document these changes as they occur. Furthermore, in an age of single child families, a pregnancy becomes a one-off occurrence that will leave scant memories once it ends. Pregnancy photography is a good way to make these memories permanent and cherish them forever.

-

Like any photography project, you can either do it yourself, or take the help of a professional photographer. The latter option, for obvious reasons, will give you better results. You can easily find many photographers who specialize in this niche.

When selecting a pregnancy photographer, you must try to find someone who knows his job intimately, has a lot of experience, and can make you comfortable in his presence. Understandably, many women have apprehensions about their body and the various changes taking place inside it, and may feel uncomfortable in the presence of a photographer. A true professional, however, should be able to put you at ease and give the best possible results.

-

Always consult the photographer’s previous work to get an idea of his aesthetics and style, and see if it matches yours. It is very easy to cross from tasteful to tasteless when it comes to pregnancy photography, and you obviously want to avoid the latter. Look for a photographer whose work exudes class, sophistication, and a celebration of the human body.

-

It is important to use the right kind of clothing when getting your photograph taken. Wear something light and thin to allow for maximum comfort, and maximum focus on the pregnant body. A thin robe, a large shirt, a light gown – these are all great options for a pregnancy photography shoot. Have a multitude of shots – some solo, some with your husband – in a variety of poses and angles to get the best results.

-

If you want to document the changes taking place in your body over the course of the pregnancy, it is advisable to get photographs taken every 8-12 weeks. This way, you can really have memories of all the body’s changes. Otherwise, can get just one set of photographs taken, preferably in the third trimester when the pregnant body can be highlighted. This, of course, is a personal decision.

-

Pregnancy photography is a wonderful new trend that celebrates the human body, and the creation of new life. Pregnancy is one of the most wonderful periods of a woman’s life that ought to be captured adequately in photos that will provide you with ever lasting memories.

Photo Canvas Prints – Rules of Protection and Care

***

So, we are going to discuss some other interesting and significant points about canvas art and especially how to take care of canvases, keep them and clean.

You will have undoubtedly invested all your love, power, time, money and energy into the creation of this piece of canvas art, it needs to serve you for some years as a bright and vivid memory, placed in an obvious position it will bring enjoyment by often relating to you some nice and pleasant moments of our lives. So, once you have this lovely canvas, here are some simple tips on how to take care of it in order for your canvas to remain nice and beautiful.

First of all, think about colour fading, depending on what inks and fabric are used, you must place the canvas in the right place. Try and keep it in a place away from the direct sunlight. Of course, every company will ensure you that their inks are everlasting, but you must know that reality this is a reality as everything fades whether sooner or later. If the inks are really qualitative, then they will serve for longer period of time. But to be safe and sure, find a nice location in your home or workplace where there is enough light to show off the canvas, but is suitably away from direct sunlight. In this case you will have an opportunity to enjoy your canvas for longer.

Another good point to remember, as we have mentioned above is the material on which the canvas is made of, as is often crafted on a wood frame. Both fabric and wood are receptive to moisture and heat. So, mind these factors when you are looking for a suitable place for canvas in your flat. Do not place is near or directly above a heating system, oven, fire-place and the like. Also avoid placing them into bathroom, on the balcony, terrace where rain or moisture drops or any other kind of water can reach them.

If you are changing the interior of your place and have taken the decision to keep canvases in a storage area while you decorate make sure the particular conditions are good that there is enough space for it, not too hot, wet, humid or cold. So, if it is attic of basement, check all circumstances, be safe not sorry.

Regarding cleaning, may I give you a piece of advice to do it in a traditional way. Thus, dusting with a feather duster is the best way to fresh canvas photo prints. It allows you to remove all accumulated dust from the surface. By the way, the canvas can be protected by framing it into glass. Thus you can escape any dust gathering. Or, if you are careful the use of modern sprays will help to protect your canvas and keep it bright and fresh. So, here are just simple step to protect canvas prints from aging and influence of time.

Do you want to decorate your home or office? Canvas prints are the best way to do it. Original canvas company can help your to turn your photos onto stunning pieces of artwork.

If you hand anyone a camera these days, they can make a portrait. That said, we all know some are better than others. The key is consistency. The best portrait photographers consistently deliver excellent portraits with almost every subject they photograph.

Why?

What do they know that the average photographer does not? What tricks do they have up their sleeves that we can learn? This series will look to uncover some of those tricks.

Most Important

Whether you are taking simple school pictures or doing formal senior portraits, before you can learn how to take a great portrait, you have to know what NOT to do first.

Things You Should Never Do When Taking a Portrait

When I hire experienced photographers to do our youth or high school sports photos they sometimes think they are above the work. It doesn’t take long for me to show them that they do not know it all and that if they listen, they just might learn a thing or two. These rules apply to every kind of portrait from school pictures to wedding photography.

1. When taking your portrait, leave out the “T”.

Okay, so I am not talking about the actual letter in the word, rather, the composition of the subject’s body. You do not want their body to form a “T” in the photo. What I mean by “T” is when the subject is right in the middle of the frame with their back straight and their shoulders even across the photo. Their back and shoulders make a “T”. This makes the subject look stiff and uncomfortable. Unless you are a Marine Corps photographer trying to show the discipline of your subject, this isn’t the look you should be going for.

So how do we fix this? If you have your subject lean slightly forward or backward it will loosen them up a bit. Remember that a person’s personality should be reflected in a portrait. By following the “No T in Portrait” rule you should make sure they come out looking their best.

2.Nobody likes a Square.

In this case we are not talking about the shape, rather, the position of the person. If their body is square with the camera they are going to look wide. People look their widest when you can see the full front of their body. This poses a problem, especially for women. If you slightly turn the subject they will appear thinner and they will thank you for it!

Can you do what they do?

First you need to learn what they know. I don’t see any reason why you can’t, but you have to start off one step at a time. Even if you don’t have all of the equipment and resources that other portrait photographers have you can still produce high quality portraits by following some basic techniques and by understanding what makes a good portrait.

Outdoors is the Way to Go For Senior Portraits in Hawaii

The Hawaiian Islands have some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Oahu alone has amazing beaches, swaying palm trees, lush rainforests, cascading waterfalls and the towering Ko’olau mountains. The Big Island of Hawaii has an active volcano, a snow-capped mountain with a world-class observatory and cattle ranches. Each of the other Hawaiian Islands – Maui, Kauai, Lanai and Molokai – also have their unique natural beauty. So, why is it that most high school students who vacation in Hawaii don’t think about having their senior pictures taken here? Probably because all their classmates have their senior pictures taken with the school photographer back home.

The few students who break the mould are richly rewarded with unique senior portraits that can only be taken in Hawaii. Below are some great outdoor locations for student photos in Hawaii.

The Beach
It would be remiss not to mention the most popular location for portrait photography in Hawaii. There are golden sand beaches, black sand beaches (Big Island of Hawaii), beaches with lava rocks around – the list is endless.

Botanical Garden
If you’re a plant lover or would like a lush green background in your photos, consider a visit to a botanical garden.

Rainforest and Waterfall
Photos in a rainforest usually involves taking a hike. Several rainforest hikes do have waterfalls at the end of the trail but it may not be practical to take several outfits and hike through the mud. However, most local photographers will know of areas that have a rainforest feel sans the hike. There are also manmade waterfalls that can be easily accessed.

Orchid or Tropical Flower Farm
You will need to get permission to shoot at an orchid or flower farm, but most places will grant permission if you offer to buy a plant (yes, they can package orchids for air travel) and explain that the photos are for your personal use and not for commercial purposes. If you like a very colorful background, orchid and flower farms are good locations for your senior pictures.

Your hotel grounds
Most of the higher-end hotels have beautifully landscaped areas that are great locations for photography. Unfortunately, some of these hotels charge a ridiculously high photo fee even if the guest’s pictures are for their personal use. Your best bet is to call the hotel’s guest services director and ask him or her to waive the fee. Insist on using the photographer of your choice and not the expensive hotel photographer who takes boring pictures. If they refuse, say that you will stay at another hotel that is more accommodating. Chances are, they will waive the fee because hotels need to fill up their rooms.

Horse Ranch
If you love riding, consider taking your senior photos at a horse ranch or riding school. This will also require obtaining permission ahead of time.

Chinatown or some other bustling street in Honolulu
If you want to throw in some culture into your shoot, take a stroll down Honolulu’s Chinatown area on a Sunday morning. Bustling markets selling fresh fruits and vegetables amidst the historical buildings of Oahu’s downtown makes for a funky backdrop to your senior pictures.

Some senior portrait photographers, including myself, will allow pictures with family members, siblings or friends with some of the extended packages. Photo books, slide shows and canvas prints are also offered as add-ons with your outdoor senior portrait packages. These are all well worth considering as they will be a wonderful souvenir of your trip to Hawaii.

Photography Poses – The Missing Ingredient

You’ve read all the “best digital camera” articles, got the best price on your first digital camera, and even glanced at its owner’s manual. Are you itching to take some shots of your family, or what?

Slow down, soldier. Before you take 200 shots that seem great at the time, but then upon review of the final picture are less than what you expected, let’s prepare. Prepare?!?! I’ll bet you thought charging the battery was the hardest part of taking great photos, didn’t you? Sorry to disappoint you, but if you want to improve your photo results 50% in 2 minutes, let’s review some basic advice of the pros.

There are two categories of GENERAL ADVICE which applies, regardless of whether you’re using a digital camera to take family portrait poses, baby pictures, pet portraits, group pictures, funny photos, or even maternity portraits. The first category is…

“Good Planning” Advice for Photography Poses

***

1) Prepare For The Event

Prepare for the event by thinking about every photograph you want to take and what kind of photography pose or poses you would like to capture. Consider who, where, how, and the type of environment.

***

2) Take Multiple Photographs

Take multiple shots of each pose (remember, digital memory is reusable, a.k.a. “free”). Regardless of what you say or do, people will blink. And don’t count on spotting small problems on the tiny camera LCD screen (even on full magnification); which leads to…

***

3) Check LCD Screen

Check the digital camera’s LCD screen for general framing of the picture, any movement, visibility of faces, and the histogram. Note that you can think up a fantastic photography pose; arrange everyone perfectly; and, have the photograph “frozen” (no blinking, and no shaking of the camera)…but, when you check it out in the LCD, you see 2 drunks fighting in the background! And, my favorite…

***

4) Funny Phrases

Have some funny phrases handy to use just before you take the photo. Don’t use it when setting up for the shot. And, don’t use the same phrase all the time. Throw in funny anecdotes, phrases, names, words that you know your family will find more amusing than “cheese.” A natural smile looks four times better than a fake one. The second category is…

“Location” Advice for Photography Poses

***

Taking indoor family photography, is very different than outdoor family photograph (duh!). For INDOOR pictures…

1) Wide Angle

You will tend to use the wide angle more often than your telephoto setting. Pay particular attention to your “end people” (those farthest to the right and the left in your viewfinder), and verify there is enough space in picture, so that if cropping is required, the end people don’t have to lose a limb.

***

2) The Flash

Flash considerations are critical. Do not be outside your “flash range.” For example, if at ISO 100, your flash can properly illuminate 12 feet, don’t attempt any photography pose that requires anyone to stand at 14 feet (unless, of course, it’s evil cousin Ira who you want to appear in darkness).

***

3) Plan “B”

If you need to be further away than your flash allows, here are 2 things you can try…First, increase the ISO setting (but not so much as to produce to much noise), or second, move to a significantly brighter location.

***

4) Watch Your Background

If there are distracting features, change your settings to blur the background (see the Techniques page). The best photography pose in the world won’t look right with a distracting background. And finally…

***

5) Mirror, Mirror, on the Wall

If there are mirrors or reflective surfaces in the background and you can’t find a different location, only take the picture in such a way that the flash is not perpendicularto the surface, but at an angle (unless you want a nice photo of your flash).

Outdoor family photography has completely different issues. For OUTDOOR photography…

***

6) The Sun

Avoid photographing in direct sunlight, or in mixed light and shade, especially faces. Optimal lighting results from a slightly overcast sky.

***

7) Shade

When photographing in shade, use fill-flash (see terms) when necessary. And, really finally…

***

 Beauty

If practical, take the picture at one of the beautiful natural settings near you. Imagine the result of a creative photography pose captured in a stunning environment. Can you say: “Over the mantle!”?

Photo Prints on Canvas – Displaying Photos in Your Home

A few of the most common ways to share and display photos are prints, photo albums, and photo books but fewer people consider printing their photos onto canvas. Printing photos on canvas is a great way to display your photos in your home.

Use photo canvases to display your photos by hanging them in areas where others can easily notice them. The most highly-trafficked areas in homes are the living room, dining room, and the restroom. Hanging your canvas in these areas adds to the decor and invites comments. Photos printed on canvas are great conversation starters because people will admire the quality of the canvas and the skill of the photographer. Since most people are naturally curious, they’ll comment on the print and may want to know the story behind it. You’ll be able to share why the picture is special to you and any memorable moments that occurred while taking the photo.

Ideas for canvas worthy prints are abundant. Use pictures of yourself, your children, your family, your wedding, or vacation photos. The possibilities really are endless.

To get the best quality from your canvas, you should start with a well-taken professional image. It should not be fuzzy, dark, or have any other distracting feature, unless that’s the look you’re going for. Remember that a canvas print will only be as good as the picture it’s printed from so, only select from your best ones. Normal canvas sizes range from the smaller end at 8×10 to custom size.

If you’re looking for new ways to share or display your photos, or have interesting conversation pieces in your home, consider making a photo canvas for all to enjoy.

Boudoir Photography For Mature Women

Arranging a boudoir photo shoot is something which is becoming increasingly popular with women of all ages, not just young girls with perfect figures but, increasingly, by older women in their thirties, forties and even fifties. The reasons for boudoir’s growing popularity amongst older women are wide and varied but, generally, women are becoming much less self-conscious about their bodies than used to be the case. TV programs such as How to Look Good Naked have done much to promote this view by demonstrating that, with a little help, anyone can look great regardless of their shape or age.

What Motivates a Woman to have a Boudoir Photo-Shoot?
Every woman will have her own reasons but the main motivations usually come under the following headings:

Life Changes
Marriage – many women booking a boudoir photo-shoot are doing so as a gift for their future husband. Although mainly young brides there are a growing number of older women, perhaps marrying the second time around, who are arranging a bridal boudoir shoot as a gift idea for their new husband.
Pregnancy – maternity boudoir is another growing trend and this is particularly popular with women in their thirties who are starting a family later in life and, maybe, are at an advantage financially over younger women who may be restricted in terms of budget?
Divorce – getting divorced can be a stressful and depressing experience for obvious reasons. But some women are taking the opportunity to start anew – and what better way than a confidence boosting and empowering set of images to remind them that they still have a lot to be positive about?

Milestones
Reaching a certain age is a milestone in anyone’s life and a boudoir shoot is particularly popular with women who have just turned 40 and 50. What used to be considered middle-age is now being seen as a new beginning and some women do really come ‘into-their-own’ at this time of life.

Body Changes
A recent weight loss is often a big reason to celebrate and a set of images showing you in a way you might never have thought possible is a great way of recording a dieting success – not to mention a fantastic motivation to stay that way!
The growing popularity of cosmetic surgery is also another motivating factor – particularly for those who have had a little enhancement up-top.

What about nerves and lack of confidence?
Thinking about a boudoir shoot is one thing; actually going ahead with it can be another matter? Some women will naturally be apprehensive when it comes to posing for a professional photographer although there really is no need. The benefit of boudoir style photography is that it is up to you what is shown and what is not – start at your own comfort level and see how it goes: a good photographer will soon put you at ease and you’ll be surprised how much fun it can be!

Pick the Right Photographer and the Rest is Easy
Choosing the photographer is something you don’t want to rush – look through examples of their work and see which have images you like. Each photographer will have his or her own style and you’ll soon see which work best with women in your age group. Some women will prefer a female photographer while others might prefer a male view on what looks attractive – it really is up to you?

Above all, enjoy the experience, take your time and have fun – it should, after all, be an experience you never forget.

Family Portrait in San Jose

Here are several points to consider when planning for your family portraits.

How Often? Generally, every three years, or after a major change such as birth or marriage. Any longer than that, and people will have changed enough that the old portrait on the wall looks like someone else.

What Time of Year? You can choose any time of year. If you are winter people, why not pick a ski or other outdoor setting? If you are boaters, late summer is a good time. Many family images are captured in early autumn. The weather is cooler, things may have calmed down a bit from summer, and you have the opportunity to capture fall colors in many areas of the country.

What’s the Occasion? Most family portraits are not centered around any specific occasion – they are scheduled and conducted independent of other life activities. However, if you have a special gathering of relatives for a family reunion, holiday get-together, wedding, baptism or graduation, it is a good opportunity to get extended family images taken.

What Location? Think about what kind of images you would like to have preserved. Are you interested in formal, indoor portraits, or more casual, outdoor images? Are you fond of beach or woods settings? Determining how you want your family represented is an important step in planning for your family portraits. Destination Images are one option you may not normally think to consider – if you hire a photographer to take your images while on a trip, or travel with the photographer to a special location, you can capture some truly special images.

Where Do You Want to Display? Your family portraits should command the center of attention in your house. Be certain to think about the locations where you would like to display the images. Your photographer will consult with you on the size and type of images that would work well in each setting, as well as some color scheme ideas for clothing and setting that would compliment the decor. Also think about your work and second home for possibilities to display wall portraits and desk images.

What/Who Do We Include? Well, the core family is a must. You may want to add extended family such as husbands and wives and their children for some images. You will have to consider whether boyfriends and girlfriends are in your main group shots – it may be best to have smaller images with them and a smaller group. If you have a property, setting or toy such as a boat, camp, farm or club to which you belong, you may want to have those featured as well.

What Should We Wear? It will depend on the setting of course, but the key is to be compatible in color and dress. For beach, it is common to have either khaki or denim bottoms and white or other solid-color tops, and often, bare feet are better in the sand than footwear. For fall photos, denim and solid colors are appropriate. For special setting or destinations, you just need to plan and communicate before the day of the event.

How Long to Plan for the Session? You’ll want to block off a couple of hours for an average family session. To make sure the session goes well, plan to have your clothing laid out before that day, and make sure any small children and pets are well rested and fed. Family sessions should be relaxed and pleasant. In fact, many customers comment that their family session was one of the more enjoyable events that their family has had.

What to Budget? Family portraits are not like school pictures. They are an investment and works of art, and they are not generally taken more than once every few years. So be prepared to invest in the legacy and memory. The actual cost of the images will depend upon your photographer and the products that you choose, and you should discuss the financial deatils during your planning sessions.

So, that’s not so bad! You now are prepared to search for and contact photographers who can guide you through your family portrait experience. As you screen your photographers, see if they ask you these questions. If they do not, then you need to question their ability to understand and meet your needs. And if it’s been more than three years for your family – start planning for your portraits today!
